Clarence Kirkey was born on the Hall Road in the town of Massena. He
left home at a young age. At the age of 17 he began working at Alcoa. He
was laid off in 1918. He worked at J. J. Taylor driving Model T Fords
back and forth to Buffalo. He worked at a logging camp in St. Regis
Falls. He went back to farming. In 1927 he began working for St.
Lawrence Utilities. He started out at $.40 per hour. He was a Line
Foreman when he retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1962. After retirement,
he had a cottage on Wilson Hill for the summer and a home in Norman
Beach, Florida, later Sarasota. He lived on Sherwood Drive and at Laurel
Terrace before moving into the Highland Nursing home.
